Who We Are:
- ACEC of Maine was formed in 1964 as the Consulting Engineers of Maine, a non-profit, voluntary, self-governing organization
- ACEC of Maine represents more than 50 statewide consulting engineering firms dedicated to the private practice of engineering
- ACEC of Maine is affiliated with a broader national organization, the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) that represents more than 5,500 consulting engineering firms nationally
Our Mission:
- ACEC
of Maine/ACE's mission is to protect the public interest and advance
the professional quality of consulting engineering both nationally and
in Maine by continually improving the business practices of
consulting engineering.
Our Services and Benefits:
- Through the years, ACEC of Maine has taken an active role in the Maine Legislature monitoring hundreds of engineering-related legislative documents and taking action as necessary. ACEC of Maine has successful lobbied for the following:
- An exemption for Design Professionals Limitation of Actions
- Passage of an act concerning Public Agencies Contracting for Architectural/Engineering Services
- The Energy Building Standards Act
- Amending the worker’s compensation laws to exempt design professionals from general civil liability for injuries on construction projects
- Successfully defeated a sales tax on engineering services on several occasions
- ACEC of Maine annually co-sponsors the Design & Construction Day at the Legislature, a breakfast briefing for Maine's legislators.
- ACEC of Maine presents four membership programs per year addressing business practice topics and an annual Engineering Excellence Awards Program. All entries from the Engineering Excellence Awards Program are exhibited through-out the state every year promoting the good work of Maine's Consulting Engineering community.
- ACEC of Maine appoints representation to the following groups:
- ACE Committee (joint industry committee of architects, contractors and engineers)
- Architects/Engineers Task Force (joint legislative effort of AIA Maine and ACEC of Maine)
- Maine DEP Consulting Professionals Task Force (this coalition serves as a forum on issues for Maine Department of Environmental Protection)
- Maine DOT/ACEC of Maine Joint Committee
- The Maine QBS Council (jointly sponsored by AIA Maine, Maine Society of Professional Engineers and ACEC Maine to promote Qualifications Based Selection in the public sector)
- Maine Engineers Week
